Structure
Forty-seven numbered chapters plus an epilogue, in two Parts that are the two floors. Part I (chapters 1–27) is the night the world ends, the tutorial, and the First Floor, ending at the stairwell. Part II (28–48) opens with the between-floors interview on Odette's programme, then the Second Floor through to the stairwell down, and the epilogue. Chapter 1 precedes the Part I heading in the book itself. Ten typographic scene breaks.
