Growler Gary

Shade Gnoll bartender of the Downward Dog at the interdiction depot, level 25, held at his own door by an invisible wall while Jumping Jen-Jen called him a coward and died. An indestructible NPC — a Cookbook tell — whose left hands start the rapid-response carts. Killed fourteen times for his left hands, and twice more when the carts come up a pair short; after the fifth, told why; 'Do your best to make sure it doesn't hurt.'

Arc

'Growler Gary ain't no coward.' He tells the party about the carts; they discover what his hands are for (ch. 26). Mongo kills him fourteen times for his left hands, and twice more when the carts come up a pair short (ch. 27). When they come for the fifth hand, hiding in the back room with a spear, he asks why, is told, and asks for a drink when it is done (ch. 26). Donut: 'He ended up being really brave' (ch. 27). The recap shows the killings without the reason (ch. 29).
