Samantha's power
Stronger the longer a floor runs and, Carl guesses, with every death: Samantha flies, glows like a small sun, augments spells, perhaps beyond what she means (Carl wonders whether she is why a whole beach is teleported), is unbreakable to a goddess's pickaxe, and can name the four princes of Sheol and the harem's grudges. 'I've been faking it the whole time'; 'It's the tree, I think… He's opening a path through the river, the water, and the tree, the earth.'
