A potion meant to show Carl the spider's worst memory binds him to Katia's instead (ch. 16); the adjutants can watch dreams on a screen (ch. 18); several days earlier, told in full: the plastic gone for a moment, everyone glimpsed, a hospital in Iceland, and two dreams colliding (ch. 69). 'This is what the dungeon sees' — but it has never been human (ch. 69).
