This Inevitable Ruin

Author: Matt Dinniman First published: 2024 (self-published) Series: Dungeon Crawler Carl, book 7 of 8 (a ninth to come) — the series as a whole is read one level up. Working edition: DRM-free EPUB (a Calibre conversion of the self-published edition), extracted to plain text by ..txt, ~270,000 words). No page coordinates; cite by chapter.

A paragraph set entirely in bold in the source is a System message — a notification, infobox or achievement — and is marked with a leading » in the plain text so the dungeon's own voice can be told apart from Carl's. There are 2,076 of them in this book.

Structure

A prologue, eighty-seven numbered chapters and an epilogue, in four named Parts — all on the ninth floor (Faction Wars, in Larracos); the prologue is on Earth's surface and the epilogue in orbit. Ten titled interludes from other points of view (Porthus, Dante, Tipid, Everly, Milk, Volteeg, Justice Light, Rosetta, and two of Carl's own) are each folded into the chapter that follows them under an Interlude — Name line; an eleventh, Battalions, is an image page and is dropped. Fifty-nine typographic scene breaks. Tempest's school report recapping books 1–6 (front matter), the map, and the author's afterword are skipped by the extractor.

  1. The Ceasefire — 20 chapters
  2. The Ramp-Up — 36 chapters
  3. Open Hostilities — 13 chapters
  4. The Peeling of Larracos — 20 chapters
