Motif · Book 7, This Inevitable Ruin
Odette and Mordecai
The prologue's crawl and its bill: Odette as Mordecai's manager, staring into the eye, bribing Huanxin, tricking her, and killing Uzzi to buy a key; Armita dead for it the next season; Mordecai drinking for centuries while Odette watches. 'It's about Mordecai. It always has been.' A trust set aside; a plan to die killing Huanxin. Mordecai will not say a word of it.

Progression
Rosetta mentions Odette's story and Mordecai growls (ch. 16); 'My brother died because of you and because of Odette and because of Chaco. But mostly because of you' — a bolt tipped with their mother's ashes (ch. 86).
