Opening

Remex screamed. The sudden, terrifying noise jolted my eyes open.

Summary

They are not dead. The case glows red and Carl pulls it into his inventory with his skin burning off: Carl's Doomsday Scenario, an explosion large enough to rattle the teeth of a god, Explosion Imminent, un-stabilisable. But Remex is now the epicentre of a wild-magic burst in twenty minutes, with four precursor pulses that turn magical gear against its wearer. The swordsmen collapse into scrap; Mordecai orders everything off; Carl runs naked but for a jacket, sending eighty crawlers east.

Conrad E explodes from his arrows. Donut, arguing, loses the Crown of the Sepsis Whore to the third pulse before she can remove it. The fourth fires everyone's hotlist and Katia's Rush through a wall. Bautista is at the stairwell to the fourth floor. Carl has Katia press the detonator with twenty seconds left, congratulates Mordecai on his freedom, and dissolves into the door — pantsless, as Donut points out, straight to Odette's show.
