Progression

Sheol's version of a Xanax, and no health lost while inside (ch. 2); the closer one gets to it on the fifteenth floor, the more demons leak up into places that have not been cleansed in a while (ch. 23); vorpals, the gods' deputies against demons (ch. 33); a spell that casts Sheol Fire around Carl, and immunity to its heat and lava (ch. 47). The warning: souls rain and Sheol overflows, demons flung upward who can return only by dragging a soul down with them (ch. 54); a queen and four princes (ch. 61); Sheol fire in Carl's hands (ch. 69).
