Structure
Ninety-eight numbered chapters and an epilogue in two Parts, Horrible One (chapters 1–87, the tenth floor, run as seven heats; its page reads "Control") and Horrible Two (chapters 88–98, the eleventh floor; its page reads "A Parade of Horribles"). Six interludes from other points of view — Chandra, Minus, Quasar, Sydnee Iglacia, Prime Minister Victory, Louis Santiago — are each folded into the chapter that follows under an Interlude — Name line; the last three are the epilogue. Fifteen typographic scene breaks. Samantha's recap of book 7, the title's dictionary entry and the author's afterword are skipped by the extractor.
