Elites do not level (ch. 13); they are not autonomous, and the showrunners send suggestions (ch. 16); hunters avoid them (ch. 24); a program's climax that its elite lost (ch. 47). Whether they can be woken is the book's experiment (ch. 63, ch. 68, ch. 73).
