Place · Book 5, The Butcher's Masquerade
Fort Freedom
The naiads' river palace, a quarter mile offshore like a drowned skyscraper — a rampart gone, a tattered flag, a stained-glass window shot full of holes — held by the Confederacy's dukes since the coup that killed Signet's mother, rotting because they will not tax. Its alarm takes forever to reset; its vents flood; Wonderwall gets stuck in one. Taken, with an algae infestation.
