God · from book 6

Ogun

God of Blacksmithery and Armor, level 250, an outsider from an obscure, dissipated pantheon who toils at a celestial anvil making armour for four-legged beasts, unsponsored and 'a strong contender for the celestial throne'. He answers his worshippers' failure in the Thorn Room in person: crushes Anton's head, burns Paz permanent, spares Carl for Emberus's sake. 'Now tell my sister I said' — ‘Welcome Back.’

First appears: B6 ch. 5

Book 6 — The Eye of the Bedlam Bride

Shrine one of the Celestial Thorn Room: 'the only one of these Orisha guys to ascend to the Halls', with a new generation of followers and no wish to see his old family back in the game; two of Paz's party worship him, and repairing any other shrine earns them a smite (B6 ch. 15). He comes in person — human-sized, a war hammer, eyes of white light, a Caribbean accent, 'Ogun strongly believes all punishments should be handed out in person' — Shelves Sister Ines for six minutes, heals Paz only to withdraw his grace and leave a hand-shaped burn across his face, and spares Carl: 'If I didn't hold Emberus in such high esteem, I would crush you, too. Now tell my sister I said' (B6 ch. 16). Yemaya is the sister; Eileithyia promises the council will hear that he shed blood in her temple (B6 ch. 17). Paz keeps the burn and the memory (B6 ch. 56).

Book 7 — This Inevitable Ruin

Remembered: the spell Carl cast to save Anton from the god Ogun on the last floor, which did not work (B7 ch. 51).
