Chapter 4 of 48 · Book 1, Dungeon Crawler Carl
Chapter 4 — The character sheet
Book: Dungeon Crawler Carl · Part: The First Floor · Previous: Chapter 3 — Da Tutorial Guild · Next: Chapter 5 — Inventory and the ratings panel · Floor: Floor 1 — The Tutorial · Series: the series
Opening
“There are six basic starter species the Syndicate uses to seed worlds.
Summary
Mordecai lectures first: the Syndicate seeds worlds with six basic starter species and strips them later, and the real money is the show, 'more a Running Man situation than a Survivor one.' Then the Crawler Menu and the character sheet: stats that cannot be distributed until the third floor, and a Strength of 6 against an Intelligence of 3 that points him toward a strength-based class. After them comes the ratings panel (views, followers, favorites, patrons), which Mordecai calls 'the single most important menu in the entire game.'
Mordecai warns that disparaging the Syndicate or Borant on camera may get a crawler's experience 'accelerated.' A female voice announces the dungeon sealed: just under 13 million entered, already under 10 million left. Carl asks about Donut: any creature above a certain weight gets a crawler ID, but without an Intelligence of two it cannot train and counts as a pet. This is his last tour; the deepest anyone has gone is floor 13.
