He owns a stuffed back-alley mouser that becomes a decoy Donut (ch. 34), sorts five hundred beanies for rare variants (ch. 36, ch. 57), and is with Katia now — 'You know. You had a thing for her' (ch. 57). He holds her back from Eva (ch. 67), cuts across the ballroom between two chainsaw-armed summons (ch. 75), and is nearly killed with Tran in the pit (ch. 76). The epilogue gives his side of the night before: 'You're stronger than you think. That's all.' 'I love you, too' (epilogue).
