Seeds
'All it takes is a little seed.' Carl's mother's line, remembered at the circus, becomes his long game: talking Grimaldi down instead of killing him, the frog-in-the-pot speech that gets a trailer pulsed from orbit. 'Mordecai had his plans. I had my own.'
First appears: Book 2
Series arc
As of book 3. Carl's mother's word, recovered at a circus in book 2 and made a method by the end of that floor: plant the idea, sell the outcome, let the audience do the rest. Book 3 does not use the word; its network — chat lists, hats, carts — is the method in practice, and Carl's entry in the Cookbook renames the aim: 'I will break them all.'

Seeds in book 2 — Carl's Doomsday Scenario
A circus smell, a mother who ran away with him, sapling trees still standing on satellite images: 'All it takes is a little seed' (ch. 10, ch. 11). Carl's version is a decision not to kill a city boss but to reconcile it with its daughter, and then, on live television with his hand on Donut, to tell an empire's people to rise (ch. 19). 'Mordecai had his plans. I had my own' (ch. 20). Hekla's word: scorched earth.
