The Over City

The third floor, named once in the first book, when Zev tells Carl that 'once you do hit the over city' he will need something compelling. She says the third, sixth and ninth floors are linked in a way that will later become clear, and that they all come into existence at the same time.

First appears: Book 1

Named once in book 1, the whole of book 2, and mostly under the fourth floor: the Desperado Club is at every station ending in one, Club Vanquisher at every station ending in nine, and Larracos, the capital the factions fight over, is named for the first time. Its lower layers wait on floors six and nine.

By book

The Over City in book 1 — Dungeon Crawler Carl

Named once, by Zev, as the place where they will need a compelling story: 'once you do hit the over city' (ch. 44). Mordecai's third-floor lectures are off limits until the second floor's halfway point.

The Over City in book 2 — Carl's Doomsday Scenario

Introduced in ch. 3: villages, ruins, guards, day and night, a volcano story with Scolopendra at the bottom, printed NPCs who believe it. The book covers a small village, a circus in a park, thirty-four kilometres of road, and a medium skyfowl settlement — and ends with 45 square kilometres of it nearly flattened (ch. 24, ch. 25).

The Over City in book 5 — The Butcher's Masquerade

The third floor, remembered from the sixth: the swordsmen guards the Funeral Bells are not (ch. 2); the Desperado Club's 1920s-style entrance there (ch. 5); the city Signet fled to and joined the circus in, where Areson's brother Apollon, who went with her, was during the nine-tier attack (ch. 14, ch. 25, ch. 29); 'The Over City was devastated' (ch. 52).
