Loita

A kua-tin of the Bloom, formerly Hekla's representative, who claims the Royal Court's account when Katia joins it and takes it when Zev is sent to 'reeducation.' A rebreather instead of a suit, a dahlia pin, and a rule that crawlers get no more snacks.

Through book 3

Bloom; formerly Hekla's; takes the party's account through Katia when Zev is sent to reeducation (B3 ch. 25, B3 ch. 34). She ends the Odette chats, bans snacks, and mutes the host twice (B3 ch. 35).

Through book 4

Bookings, a product sample, a threat to feed Mongo to a mob (B4 ch. 7, B4 ch. 17). In an underwater trailer she says what the Bloom believes — human culture a contagion, a reawakening once every dry vermin is dead — and what was done to Zev's mother and aunts (B4 ch. 18). Carl leaves a self-destructing doll beside her and gets her off the couch; she dies, an arm and both lower legs gone, unable to be teleported without drowning two crawlers Borant values more. 'Nobody likes melodrama, Loita' (B4 ch. 18). Fifteen admins had died to crawlers this season before her (B4 ch. 19).

Through book 5

An extra kill achievement the AI withheld 'a little earlier' is slipped in: 'Shhh' (B5 ch. 6). Her death, and an escape attempt, are why the old rental trailers are gone and the Valtay ship watches everything (B5 ch. 30).

Through book 6

Cascadia reminds Donut of her (B6 ch. 21).

By book

Loita in book 3 — The Dungeon Anarchist's Cookbook

Zev's replacement: Bloom, formerly Hekla's rep with a claim through Katia (ch. 25); a rebreather and a dahlia pin (epilogue). She takes the account (ch. 34), attends every interview, barges into the post-show chat and ends it, bans snacks, mutes Odette twice, and screams at her between segments (epilogue). 'You don't scare me.' 'Ditto.'

Loita in book 4 — The Gate of the Feral Gods
The Bloom's creed

Bookings, threats and no back-talk: an infomercial, a product sample that must be seen used, 'I am not Zev, Carl' (ch. 7); Mongo fed to a mob and Donut made to watch (ch. 17); 'Audiences like drama, but not melodrama' (ch. 17). In an underwater trailer she says what she believes: humans are a cancer on the Bloom, their culture a contagion, Borant will close its borders when every dry vermin is dead and the reawakening will come; and Zev's generation had to be brought back into the fold by 'unspeakable things to her mother and her aunts' (ch. 18).

One

Carl leaves the robot Donut beside her — a fingernail shim under its self-destruct panel, a panel she herself ordered — and gets her off the couch. Missing an arm and both lower legs, flash-fried, she cannot be teleported without drowning the two crawlers Borant values more. 'You… you did this.' 'It was an accident.' 'The Bloom will prevail. You will be forgotten.' 'Nobody likes melodrama, Loita' (ch. 18). Carl keeps her rebreather. Fifteen admins had died to crawlers this season before her; Orren calls hers the only one nobody can explain (ch. 19).

Loita in book 5 — The Butcher's Masquerade

An extra kill achievement the AI withheld 'a little earlier' is slipped in: 'Shhh' (ch. 6). Her death, and an escape attempt, are why the old rental trailers are gone and the Valtay ship watches everything (ch. 30).

Loita in book 6 — The Eye of the Bedlam Bride

Cascadia reminds Donut of her — high strung, like a chihuahua, and the one who accidentally blew herself up (ch. 21).

Loita in book 7 — This Inevitable Ruin

Her kua-tin rebreather, looted at her assassination, goes into Louis's bronchial tube (ch. 84).
