God · from book 1
Grull
The god of war: child of Taranis and Apito, a trueborn heir to the Celestial Ascendency with 'an angry streak as long as a horse's cock', worshipped by donkeys and other equine creatures, and by mantaurs, who paint themselves blue. Level 250, sanctum-tier. Carl's gauntlet can summon him by accident; Prince Maestro of the Skull Empire sponsors him, and drove him in the Death Challenge on the fourth floor. His sister and arch-enemy is Pawna, the goddess of peace.

Book 1 — Dungeon Crawler Carl
A name on a gauntlet — the Enchanted War Gauntlet of the Exalted Grull, with a 1.5% chance to transfigure an adherent into the deity himself — and Mordecai's insistence that Grull is not a real god: 'There are no gods here. Just those who pay for the privilege' (B1 ch. 25).
Book 2 — Carl's Doomsday Scenario
Odette's last warning: the gauntlet can summon the war god against any of his celebrants, and King Rust has just bought a deity sponsorship — 'if I was still a gambler, I'd bet on Grull' (B2 ch. 26).
Book 3 — The Dungeon Anarchist's Cookbook
Carl's gauntlet sets off a ten-second summoning over Gore-Gore the mantaur, 'adherents of the war god Grull', and Carl kills him before it ends (B3 ch. 11); the Cookbook and Mordecai give the rules of summoning (B3 ch. 32); in the Death Challenge his card reads 'Sponsored by Prince Maestro of the Skull Empire' and names his parents, and he is ejected by a second summoning into a portal (B3 ch. 33).
Book 4 — The Gate of the Feral Gods
An achievement offers Carl the option to worship him (B4 ch. 2); Mordecai says Maggie's race cannot worship him, which is why the Skull Empire found her Algos (B4 ch. 14); Clay the dromedarian is not 'a face-painting, bull-worshipping bitch' (B4 ch. 1). One of the two gods on Carl's worship tab; Carl clicks the other (B4 ch. 31).
Book 5 — The Butcher's Masquerade
A memory and a piece of gear: the toe ring for being stepped on, and the wrist bracer that forms the gauntlet, which the elf guards make Carl stow before the party (B5 ch. 5, B5 ch. 66). The masquerade story gives him a child's line — it was Grull who asked his mother why a party with no masks is a masquerade (B5 ch. 65). Carl was saving the stripping-spell plan for him and spends it on Diwata instead (B5 ch. 76).
