Production trailers

Boats on the winter ocean where crawlers are held between floors while a holographic studio is projected around them for interviews. Menus go dark, the sets are bigger than the rooms, and nothing on the couch is quite real except the cat treats.

Series arc

Through book 7

What a frozen world feels like (B7 ch. 0, B7 ch. 14); a council in one (B7 ch. 46).

Through book 1

Two boats, three interviews. The between-floors rhythm the series will keep: Odette first, then whoever Zev books.

Through book 2

A rental with a cat-washer (B2 ch. 19); public booking schedules that make a crawler targetable from orbit (B2 ch. 20).

Through book 3

A submarine below sea level where the interface still works and the furniture is stolen (B3 ch. 20); a surface trailer where Katia's race switches off (B3 ch. 35).

Through book 4

An underwater security rental whose rule — nobody in or out until the show ends — Coolie's notes turn against an admin (B4 ch. 18); a ban on teleports follows (B4 ch. 19).

Through book 5

Odette's, in a storm (B5 ch. 17); a green room where a contract is signed minutes before air (B5 ch. 18); an empty seat between Donut and Odette (B5 ch. 19); a minute without sniffers during the hand-off (B5 ch. 20). Gone after an escape attempt, replaced by a Valtay ship (B5 ch. 30).

Through book 6

A theatre in Larracos for a set; the mask off (B6 ch. 35–B6 ch. 37).

By book

Production trailers in book 1 — Dungeon Crawler Carl

Odette's yacht with its blue velvet green room (ch. 27–ch. 29, epilogue), and Senegal Production Systems' rental closet on a smaller, rougher boat (ch. 41–ch. 43). Menus off, holograms on, real fruit, drugged treats, a porthole over the toilet showing stars over calm water. Crawlers may be taken between stairwells without asking; at any other time the request goes through Zev (ch. 36).

Production trailers in book 2 — Carl's Doomsday Scenario

A rental with a bowl bed and a cat-washing treadmill (ch. 19), and the discovery that rental bookings are public — which is how a prince aims a pulse (ch. 20). Odette's boat again for the epilogue.

Production trailers in book 3 — The Dungeon Anarchist's Cookbook

A submarine, a 'deluxe rental trailer' and a 'security trailer,' with a floodlit seabed and Carl's interface still working, because below sea level is still the main zone (ch. 20). Carl steals the cooling shelves, the makeup table, the couch and the cat treats. The epilogue's surface trailer locks inventory and switches Katia's race off (epilogue).

Production trailers in book 4 — The Gate of the Feral Gods

An underwater security rental, the same model as Odette's, with a picture window on a forcefield and a rule that nobody comes in or out until the show ends — which Coolie's notes turn into a weapon (ch. 18). Repaired in thirty seconds by subs. A ban on third-party teleports follows (ch. 19).

Production trailers in book 5 — The Butcher's Masquerade

Odette's, in a storm (ch. 17); a green room where a contract is signed minutes before air (ch. 18); an empty seat between Donut and Odette (ch. 19); a minute without sniffers during the hand-off (ch. 20). Gone after an escape attempt, replaced by a Valtay ship (ch. 30).

Production trailers in book 6 — The Eye of the Bedlam Bride

Transferred to the space station and zapped down to the underwater production trailer, into the green room and the studio where Carl signed autographs with the Popovs and stabbed a reporter (ch. 12, ch. 13); the same trailer, with Odette's set redressed as a theatre in Larracos and a much bigger audience, where the mask comes off (ch. 35–ch. 37).

Production trailers in book 7 — This Inevitable Ruin

What a frozen world and a dead HUD feel like: the shelter stopped mid-breakfast (ch. 0), the flag room's interface off (ch. 14); the warlord council is held in one (ch. 46).
