Club Vanquisher

The other club. A warning card on the first floor says holding a Desperado Pass negates the ability to obtain a Vanquisher pass; Mordecai names it in book 2 as one of the Over City's two main clubs, a country club of old clerics; on the fourth floor its entrances are churches at every transfer station ending in nine, its members are clerics, a mantaur engineer and the goat Prepotente, and the party has never been inside.

Series arc

As of book 3. A warning card in book 1, a sentence from Mordecai in book 2, and churches at every ninth station in book 3. The party has never been inside.

Through book 1

A warning card on the Desperado Pass: holding it negates the ability to obtain a Vanquisher pass (B1 ch. 19). Nothing more is said on the first two floors.

Through book 2

Mordecai, at the door of the Desperado Club: the Over City has two main clubs, access to one bars the other, and Club Vanquisher is a country club where old clerics sit in leather chairs and smoke pipes (B2 ch. 15).

Through book 3

On the fourth floor the club is at every transfer station whose number ends in nine, behind a church-like door with clerics inside (B3 ch. 6, B3 ch. 10); Gore-Gore, the mantaur engineer, goes in and comes out knowing who crashed his train (B3 ch. 11). Carl wants Katia in it, and a Desperado tattoo forecloses that (B3 ch. 8, B3 ch. 25). Prepotente is disappointed that Donut got the other club (B3 ch. 32).

Through book 4

Gwen's ring is the quadrant's only access (B4 ch. 2); the club closed after Prepotente's goat (B4 ch. 25); free to Emberus's acolytes, with an asterisk, and home to his shrine (B4 ch. 32).

Through book 5

A club like the Desperado, with entrances in the floor's towns; Point Mongo has one (B5 ch. 10). Emberus's high cleric waits at its Emberus Shrine (B5 ch. 77).

Through book 6

Potsy's door, a ski lodge, the Temple of the Ending Sun (B6 ch. 18); a loan at Blessed Sun Enchantments (B6 ch. 56).

Through book 7

The strongest temple on every floor, entered through a stew shack; a blasphemer who pulls out his own eyes; gods from a portal; Milk's guild (B7 ch. 49–B7 ch. 55); Carl banned for good (B7 ch. 57).

Through book 8

An entrance in Hungry Eyes carries the black X of Carl's permanent ban (B8 ch. 14); the Basilica beneath it holds a plinth where Ysalte's gem could be set (B8 ch. 83).

By book

Club Vanquisher in book 1 — Dungeon Crawler Carl

A name on a warning card: holding a Desperado Pass negates the ability to obtain a Vanquisher pass (ch. 19). Nothing else is said about it on the first two floors.

Club Vanquisher in book 2 — Carl's Doomsday Scenario

Named by Mordecai at the door of the Desperado Club: the Over City has two main clubs, access to one bars the other, and Club Vanquisher 'is more like a country club where old clerics sit on leather chairs and smoke pipes and occasionally tell racist jokes' (ch. 15).

Club Vanquisher in book 3 — The Dungeon Anarchist's Cookbook

A church at an ochre station whose ram-headed cleric, Donut guesses, tells Gore-Gore who crashed his train, and waves (ch. 10, ch. 11); at 59 too (ch. 18). Prepotente is 'so very disappointed' Donut got the Desperado Club and not Club Vanquisher (ch. 32). Katia was meant to try for a pass and gets a Desperado tattoo instead (ch. 8, ch. 25).

Club Vanquisher in book 4 — The Gate of the Feral Gods

No branch in Hump Town — 'They don't call it Hump Town for nothing' (ch. 1); Gwen's ring is the quadrant's only access (ch. 2). Pandinus has an entrance, but the club is closed for cleansing after Prepotente's goat eats clerics in its main lounge (ch. 25), and still closed for repairs later (ch. 33). Emberus's acolytes get free access, with an asterisk, and his shrine and high cleric are inside (ch. 32). A bubble whose church is destroyed loses the club (ch. 33).

Club Vanquisher in book 5 — The Butcher's Masquerade

A club like the Desperado, with entrances in the floor's towns; Point Mongo has one (ch. 10). Emberus's high cleric waits at its Emberus Shrine (ch. 77).

Club Vanquisher in book 6 — The Eye of the Bedlam Bride

A mercenary market in it, as in the Desperado (ch. 2); its spire in the centre of a boss room's square, with a bathroom (ch. 10, ch. 11). The Temple of Yemaya is its entrance, and Carl may enter as Emberus's worshipper (ch. 15, ch. 17); Members Only — Potsy's door, a ski-lodge lobby and the Temple of the Ending Sun (ch. 18); Blessed Sun Enchantments and a loan (ch. 56); Donut is barred, and a mantaur flexes in a mirror (ch. 52).

Club Vanquisher in book 7 — This Inevitable Ruin

Where blood bars do not drain, which is why Ferdinand lives at the bar (ch. 46); the strongest temple on every floor from the third to the eleventh, through which every Bijou's tendril runs (ch. 49). Its outside entrance this season is the Dagda's stew shack (ch. 50); its lobby of trophy heads screams and, under Dark Purpose, Mork the ram pulls out his own eyes and a mantaur guard stabs himself (ch. 51); gods pour from its portal (ch. 54); a mosh pit, a chain, and Milk's hidden guild behind a wall panel (ch. 55). Carl is banned from it, permanently (ch. 57).

Club Vanquisher in book 8 — A Parade of Horribles

An entrance in Hungry Eyes carries the black X of Carl's permanent ban (ch. 14); the Basilica beneath it holds a plinth where Ysalte's gem could be set (ch. 83).
