Book 8, chapters 88–99. Three hours: ninety minutes to build a parade float from the garage and safe room, five groups in five themes — Resolution, Decision, Betrayal, Destruction, Vengeance — a three-kilometre yellow-brick road across a fogged plain lined ten deep with horribles, masked memories of dead Primals, watched on every screen in the galaxy; a judging stand of bound elites, where the AI breaks a weak float's legs for 'a C effort at best'; and an arena the size of a dozen football fields around a white tree with a floor boss on top, where the two stand-ins a crawler chose are summoned. Twenty-three crawlers enter it; four die there, Sarah the hexcrafter and three others on the Destruction float; nineteen leave by portals to the twelfth with the collapse timers suspended until the Ascendency is won.
