Elites in book 1 — Dungeon Crawler Carl

Mordecai's boss taxonomy ends with 'There are also others, but those are called elites. You won't need to worry about them just yet' (ch. 12). The laminak fairies' 'Consultant Elite' rank is a different use of the word (ch. 32, ch. 33).

Elites in book 2 — Carl's Doomsday Scenario

Signet (ch. 6), Grimaldi and Apollon (ch. 10), an elephant-headed one leading crawlers into Bitches, a gnoll brained by Lucia Mar (ch. 15). Mordecai's definition (ch. 7): printed, imprinted, nudged, plot-armoured, free to travel between urban floors, and never to be trusted. Carl's amendment: if you aid the narrative, the writers might help you (ch. 7, ch. 11).

Elites in book 4 — The Gate of the Feral Gods

Tsarina Signet remembered in a glass fountain (ch. 21); Remex recalled as a soul leech capacitor when a withering spirit turns up (ch. 24). Ping, from the platinum box, is a spell for finding elites and hunters (ch. 32).

Elites in book 5 — The Butcher's Masquerade

Elites do not level (ch. 13); they are not autonomous, and the showrunners send suggestions (ch. 16); hunters avoid them (ch. 24); a program's climax that its elite lost (ch. 47). Whether they can be woken is the book's experiment (ch. 63, ch. 68, ch. 73).

Elites in book 6 — The Eye of the Bedlam Bride

Donut prefers to offer her talents to everyone, not an elite few (ch. 6); the ninth floor is the playground of governments and the rich, the twelfth where the true elites play (ch. 19); the ultra-elite on an island eating panda bears (ch. 23); Hereford War Machines outfits the most elite mercenary squads (ch. 52); the elites' scheming for the Ascendency, with the crawlers as sand in an hourglass (ch. 61). The dungeon's elites: Shi Maria as a city boss; the Madre; a hydra made for the Royal Court (ch. 26, ch. 46, ch. 55).
